Overhaul of Teifi Valley’s Alan George to commence

-

TEIFI Valley Railway’s (TVR) Hunslet 0-4-0ST Alan George left Henllan for an undisclosed location on February 19, for work aimed at returning it to operation.

The loco’s boiler ticket expired at the end of November 2017, and it had remained stored pending the railway finding the resources to overhaul it.

The transport move also saw the arrival of a bogie carriage on loan. This vehicle is the exSouth Tynedale Railway dining carriage which was at the Penrhyn Quarry Railway until that operation collapsed in July 2017, the carriage then being moved away, temporarily to the Ffestiniog Railway and then to a private site.

TVR has also commenced overhauling its coach No. 7 which has been out of use for some years. Built in 1974/75 at Cote Farm, near Whitney, Oxfordshire (at that time the premises of Alan Keef Ltd) hence it is often known as the ‘Cote Coach’, it was the first coach to run at what is now the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway. In 1998 it was purchased by a TVR trustee and placed on loan to the Teifi Valley line.
