£32 million Argyle line improvement work begins
NETWORK Rail has begun a £32m reliability upgrade project on the Argyle line in Glasgow.
From March 13 to
May 8, the line between Rutherglen and Exhibition Centre via Glasgow Central Low Level – much of which is in tunnel – will close for new track to be laid. At the same time, engineers will complete a series of projects to repair tunnels and bridges.
At Anderston, work to modernise the station and install a new lift shaft will also get underway, along with upgrades to the booking office, concourse and platform stairs.
The work has meant changes to the Glasgow Central station tours for the duration of the project.
