Hopes for No. B134 to be ready for Inchicore open event
WORK continues on the restoration of the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland’s (RPSI) diesel No. B134. Project manager Gerry Mooney told The RM that the loco has now been moved to the heavy maintenance shop in Inchicore for final reassembly, including all ancillary mechanical parts, and to allow checking of the main engine and auxiliary generator.
The 1960 GM-built loco will then be on the move again within the works for the last of the major work to be undertaken, with the aim to have it ready for the delayed Inchicore 175 Open Day celebrations taking place on May 7.
Mr Mooney confirmed that a meeting has taken place in Inchicore Works, facilitated by IÉ CME Peter Smyth, to further progress the loco’s main line recertification by the Commission for Rail Regulation under the RPSI’s safety management system.
