Berlin’s remaining East German veteran trams to be replaced

POLISH manufactur­er Modertrans is to build three new single car LRVs for German tram operator Schöneiche­r– Rüdersdorf Strassenba­hn for use on the isolated Line 87 tram route in the eastern suburbs of Berlin from Berlin-Rahnsdorf to Woltersdor­f. The route is currently the last non-heritage route anywhere in Germany operated with 1950s East German built ‘Gotha’ trams. Three new 15 metre long Moderus Gamma LF 10 AC BD low-floor trams have been ordered at a cost of €4 million and an option for one more has been agreed.
