Czech Railways launches new Siemens trains

CZECH national rail operator ČD introduced the first of 10 five-car rakes of new Siemens/ Škoda built ‘InterJet’ branded coaches in January. Based on the Siemens Viaggio platform (i.e. Railjet), the trains are primarily being used between Prague and Cheb via both Plzeň and Ústí nad Labem, although longer term are likely to operate internatio­nal services to Poland and other countries.

ČD is also introducin­g another 10 Siemens Vectron MS electric locos hired from Slovak leasing company RSL. ČD and RSL agreed a contract to lease up to 50 locos in early 2021 and initially took six locos; this is being increased to 16 over the next few months.
