Class 90 pays tribute to Sir William McAlpine
A JOINT project between the Bachmann Collectors Club and Locomotion Models has seen the release of a striking new ‘OO’ scale model of Class 90 electric locomotive No. 90028 Sir William McAlpine in DB Cargo red livery (pictured). The model was officially launched at the Model Rail Scotland show and is available to purchase now. A batch of 500 models has been produced; 200 will be soundfitted (available exclusively to members of the Bachmann Collectors Club) and 300 DCCready (available exclusively from Locomotion Models). DB Cargo named its locomotive Sir William McAlpine on January 11, 2019 at the National Railway Museum in York. A special train conveying guests was hauled from King’s Cross by No. 60103 Flying Scotsman and returned to London behind the newly-named No. 90028. Both locos posed for photographs outside the museum as a tribute to Sir William, who was a lifelong railway enthusiast and sadly passed away in March 2018.
First time in DB red
The Bachmann Branchline Class 90 model was first released in 2019, but now appears in the muchrequested DB Cargo red livery for the first time. Combining an accurate and detailed bodyshell with an authentic chassis and bogies – each with a wealth of separately fitted detail – the ‘90’ captures the distinctive shape and character of the real locomotives. There are also multiple lighting functions, such as ‘day’ or ‘night’ mode for the directional lighting. When used on DCC, the pantograph can be operated remotely via the built-in servo motor, meaning you can raise and lower this characteristic feature without having to intervene by hand. The soundfitted model offers authentic sound effects and is preconfigured for DCC operation of the motorised pantograph. The Locomotion Models model is priced at £229.95, and the Bachmann Collectors Club at £329.95.
