RAIB to investigate speeding Lumo
A SPEEDING incident at Peterborough on April 17 is being investigated by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch.
The Lumo-operated service from Newcastle to King’s
Cross was switched from the fast to slow lines and is said to have passed over three sets of 25mph points at the north end of Peterborough station at 75mph, causing the train to lurch sideways. This resulted in some passengers being thrown from their seats and luggage falling from the overhead storage. The train subsequently came to a stand beyond the far end of Peterborough station.
RAIB will consider the way in which the train was driven, factors which may have influenced the actions of the driver, the condition of the signalling system at the time of the incident and the nature of the reported injuries, as well as any underlying management factors.
