No Douglas Horse Trams to operate during 2022 season?

-

DOUBT has now arisen as to whether Douglas Bay Horse Tramway will open at all this season. In late April Isle of Man’s Infrastructure Minister, Tim Crookall, told Tynwald (Manx Parliament) it seemed highly unlikely the tramway would be ready for the summer and he was, “not hopeful” trams would run on Douglas Promenade in 2022.

Concern over whether the tramway would be reinstated over its full original route to the Sea Terminal arose again earlier this year, when it became known reopening for the new season was envisaged only between Derby Castle and a terminus some way short of the

War Memorial on Central Promenade (RM, March), with no opening date confirmed.

The problem now seems to relate to the availability of finance for track components.

The Minister is due to return to Tynwald in June to supply overspend figures for the project, having stated there is currently insufficient money in the budget to complete the scheme as planned.
