More rail for Dromod
THE Cavan and Leitrim Railway (C&L) based at Dromod took delivery of 30-tonnes of redundant 60lb (heavy) rail in 45 ft lengths from Bord na Mona (BnM) on April 26. The rail, which is thought to have been bought by BnM when the Clogher Valley Railway closed in January 1942, will be used for spot repairs on the existing running line and for the installation of run round loops at both Dromod and at Clooncolry the current end of the line.
Appeal
The C&L has launched a track appeal for funds to be in place to allow for more pointwork (a minimum of four sets are needed) to be bid for and secured when redundant material from BnM sites are disposed of by auctions. The railway is also open to securing secondhand sets from the UK for regauging and has asked that any interested parties who can help to email the railway at dromodrailway@gmail.com.
The museum reopened for the first time to the public on Easter Sunday April 17. While there are no train services at present, the railway has been in contact with the Commission for Rail Regulation (CRR) with a view to an inspection being undertaken by the CRR to allow services to run a later in 2022.
