€9 monthly tickets for the summer in Germany!

THE German government has announced a €9 monthly ticket covering regional and local trains, plus local buses and urban transport across the entire country for the months of June, July and August.

Available from ticket machines and train operator websites, each ticket is valid for the whole month purchased.

The government is funding the initiative with €2.5 billion of additional funding to the country’s 16 Federal states who will, as normal receive the (reduced) fare revenue and pay transport operators. Season ticket holders are being given three month extensions, while for the same months motorist fuel taxes are being reduced at a cost of €7.6 billion to the government.
