AS at December 31, 1932, the LMS had 8450 locomotive­s in stock. During 1933, 328 engines were condemned, 83 new engines were built, and 21 previously condemned were replaced in stock. The total at December 31, 1933 was 8226 – a net decrease of 224 compared with the previous year’s figure. Of the new engines, 32 were built at Crewe and 50 at Derby. The odd engine, a 0-6-0 diesel shunter No. 7401, was supplied by the Hunslet Engine Co in Leeds and became one of 16 new engines supplied to the LMSR’s Midland Division.
