AS at December 31, 1932, the LMS had 8450 locomotives in stock. During 1933, 328 engines were condemned, 83 new engines were built, and 21 previously condemned were replaced in stock. The total at December 31, 1933 was 8226 – a net decrease of 224 compared with the previous year’s figure. Of the new engines, 32 were built at Crewe and 50 at Derby. The odd engine, a 0-6-0 diesel shunter No. 7401, was supplied by the Hunslet Engine Co in Leeds and became one of 16 new engines supplied to the LMSR’s Midland Division.
