Honeybourne disappointment

-

AS I am sure the vast majority of RM readers will agree, the decision not to progress the Stratford to Honeybourne reopening is quite simply appalling (July issue).

There have been countless instances of major developments being built on or close to former railways, often obliterating parts of the original formations.

Most of the new homeowners will have one or more cars, adding to the already congested roads in the neighbourhood.

Policies which neglect suitable public, and active, transport provision are extremely short-sighted, and end up costing far more in the long run than the money ‘saved’ by shirking such provision. And this is without even mentioning climate change.

On a more positive note, it was encouraging to hear about the Scottish Government’s plans to electrify a number of additional routes in the Edinburgh area. This has got to be the way forward. I sincerely hope these plans succeed.
