Passengers ride into Glyn Valley’s Chirk station

-

THE first passenger train to run on Glyn Valley Tramway (GVT) trackbed for 87 years entered Chirk station on June 19, albeit in temporary miniature form. With clearance of the old GVT Chirk station advancing, a visit by guests including GVT historian and author John Milner inspired the idea of laying a length of 7.25in gauge track adjacent to the platform and bringing a loco and carriage to offer the guests a ride ‘into’ the station. A model of the station building which the GVT Trust aims to reconstruct on the unearthed platform was also present. Although the station area still needs extensive tidying, plans are being prepared to rebuild the station – the initial focus being on the booking office foundations.
