PUBLIC DEBUT:

- PETER NICHOLSON

Taunton Model Engineers (TME) ran its first passenger train on a short section of their new track on June 10, during a Friends of West Buckland Miniature Railway event. TME-built ‘Hymek’-style Bo-BoBE Noel Whiting passes 5in gauge steam loco Natasha. The size of the new clubhouse/loco shed/workshop is an indication of the scope of this project. Extensive earth works have been undertaken on the four-acre site for facilities and a ground-level 7¼in/5in gauge track. Total length of the circuit will be nearly 3000ft, in addition to sidings and a raised 3½in/5in gauge track. Public operation is due to start next year, but there is another Friends running day on August 20, when those interested in seeing construction progress will be welcome.
