Class 33s to visit Margate

CLASS 33s over their former Southern Region stamping ground will be the focus of Pathfinder’s ‘Canterbury Venturer’ tour on September 24.

Using a West Coast Railway Class 47 or 57 from Burton-upon-Trent, the tour will pick-up at Northfield (Birmingham), Worcesters­hire Parkway, Ashchurch, Cheltenham Spa, Stroud, Kemble and Swindon thence along the GW Main Line to Wilesden where the Class 47 will be replaced by a pair of Class 33s.

Route to Kent

The route to Margate will be via Sevenoaks, Ashford and Canterbury, where there will be a set down for passengers wanting to visit the historic city and cathedral. Final stop is Margate for a break of around three hours. Return route is as per the outward, with the Class 33s being replaced at Willesden. Fares are £119 standard (£60 junior) or £456 for a party of four; in first class its £185 adult (£145 child) and £720 for a party of four, while premier dining seats are £299 standard, £259 junior and £1176 for a party of four.
