Brent Cross station gets its roof
CONSTRUCTION of a new station at Brent Cross West, on the site of the former Cricklewood depot, saw the roof placed over the concourse and platform canopies completed, during a weekend closure of the St Pancras-St Albans section of line on July 2-3.
The station will support the development of a new town centre for Brent Cross, which includes 6700 new homes, office and commercial space, a bus station and new roads. A new overbridge will allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross this part of the Midland Main Line for the first time since it was opened.
Although the new station is less than a mile from Cricklewood station, the latter cannot accommodate 12-car Thameslink trains, but Brent
Cross will be able to. The new station will be served by up to eight trains per hour, offering a journey time from central London of less than 15 minutes.
Construction of the station began in November 2020 and is due for completion by December this year. An opening date will be announced later this summer.
The weekend closure also allowed an opportunity to make power supply improvements to the 25kV OLE between Luton and Bedford.
