Growth for unaccompanied freight
CHANNEL Tunnel operator Getlink says its service conveying unaccompanied lorry trailers, which was launched in September last year, has seen a “marked acceleration” in demand.
The company says there has been continuous growth since it launched. Between March and June, over 1000 trailers were carried.
German logistics firm Cargobeamer, which specialises in the movement of non-craneable semitrailers by rail, including to and from the UK via the tunnel, has been officially certified as ‘carbon neutral’.
Cargobeamer says that, on average, its rail services offer a carbon emissions saving of around 85% compared to road haulage.
The firm is investing in climate protection and social development projects to offset the remaining 15% generated at terminals and during movement by rail.
