‘Evolution’ ‘Pacer’ scrapped

THE unique ‘Pacer’ unit which was revamped in 2015 by leasing company Porterbook as the Class 144 ‘Evolution’ was moved to Sims Metal in Newport during May and met its end there the following month. Designed to showcase to train operators how a ‘Pacer’ could be modernised for a fraction of the cost of a new multiple unit, No. 144012 gained features including new seats and trim and a toilet designed to comply with accessibility regulations, which came into force from 2020.
