Merseyrail network ‘devolution’ talks
LIVERPOOL City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) has confirmed it is in discussion with the Department for Transport regarding the potential ‘devolution’ of the Merseyrail network. The next step is expected to be the signing of a memorandum of understanding, for which an ‘in principle’ agreement has already been reached.
It is understood that this would form the basis for developing a deal for LCRCA to take direct control of signalling, track and stations. The transfer of railway land could also provide opportunities for development. LCRCA told The RM that talks are still at an early stage and there is no definitive timeframe at present.
