BARROW HILL CELEBRATES ‘150+2’:

- STEVE DONALD

On August 26-28, the Derbyshire Roundhouse celebrated its belated 150th anniversary, which had been delayed by two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The gala aimed to recreate the British Railways-era Open Days that took place at the Roundhouse in the 1970s and early 1980s. Beside the home fleet and locos from Harry Needle and DRS that use part of the site, visiting locos included Colas No. 37219, ROG No. 37901, Hanson No. 50008 Thunderer, DCR No. 56091, DBC No. 67007 and GBRf

No. 69003 (which was named The Railway Observer at the event). Class 02 No. D2868 and Class 07 No. 07012 top-and-tailed brake van trips in the yard, while Class 03 No. 03066 and Severn Valley Railway based WR 0-6-0PT No. 1501 worked passenger trains on the depot’s branch line. This aerial view was taken on the first day.
