SUBSTATION PROGRESS:
To make way for the construction of the HS2 station at Euston, a substation that provides traction power for London Underground’s Northern line will be relocated. Its new home will be a purpose-built 20-metre (66 feet) deep and 90metre (295 feet) long structure, seen here, under the HS2 station. The substation is currently located in a building on Melton Street, which dates from 1907. This will be demolished, but some of its historic features will be reused or donated for heritage displays.
