Midland loco boost for Barrow Hill

MIDLAND Railway No. 158A has become the latest exhibit to go on public display at Barrow Hill Roundhouse.

The National Collection­owned 2-4-0 is the subject of a three-year loan agreement and arrived on August 4 from Locomotion in Shildon, where it had been receiving conservati­on work and asbestos remediatio­n.

The 1866-built Kirtley loco will join three other National Collection locos on display at the Derbyshire roundhouse – MR compound 4-4-0 No. 1000, GER ‘F48’ 0-6-0 No. 1217 and

GCR ‘Director’ 4-4-0 No. 506 Butler Henderson.

Following the removal of asbestos by specialist contractor­s at the Midland Railway-Butterley where it had been on loan, No. 158A moved in July 2021 to Locomotion, Shildon for restoratio­n.
