Swanage milestone

THE 50th anniversary of the Swanage Railway was celebrated on July 23.

SR ‘U’ 2-6-0 No. 31806 carried a headboard made by volunteer signalman Malcolm Munro. Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, a patron of the line, presented volunteers with long service badges at Corfe Castle station in the afternoon. The Swanage Railway Society was formed in 1972 with an appeal for members and volunteers appearing in The RM.
