■ A SERIES of significan­t

Vale of Rheidol Railway (VoR) anniversar­ies commenced during August. The 125th anniversar­y of the signing of the line’s Act of Parliament fell on August 6 and later in the month (exact date unclear) was the 120th anniversar­y of the VoR working its first freight train. Further 120th anniversar­ies fall later this year, the final inspection prior to opening the railway having been on November 25, 1902 and the first passenger train running on December 22, 1902.

■ RICHMOND Light Railway’s August 13 Charity Steam

Fair was to feature a visit by Hunslet 0-4-0ST Lady Joan from the nearby Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway.

■ LYNTON & Barnstaple Railway’s Essex-based East Group has substantia­lly completed the woodwork required for reconstruc­tion of bogie van No. 23. The wood is now stored at its Essex workshop awaiting assembly when the new chassis for the vehicle is delivered. The team is now preparing timber reclaimed from an Ipswich Church for use in a reconstruc­tion of bogie open observatio­n carriage No. 9.
