Plans approved to upgrade Hartlepool station

-

PROPOSALS to reinstate the redundant through platform at Hartlepool, platform 3, together with new lifts and a footbridge for improved access, have been approved by Hartlepool Borough Council.

With a Tall Ships event planned for the town for July 2023, work is beginning now, and when completed the layout will increase operational flexibility. It will also eliminate the need for all through services to use platform 2, which can prove restrictive. Services will still use the platform 1 bay.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has worked closely with Coun Shane Moore, leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, to provide £12 million in funding for the redevelopment of the station. Mayor Houchen secured £310m from Government to invest in local transport priorities.

The revitalised station will also support ambitions to reshape the town, make it a more attractive place to live and visit. Pre-pandemic, Hartlepool was used by 629,000 passengers annually.

Services to Hartlepool are run by Northern and Grand Central.
