£5m refurbishment gets underway at Stirling
WORK began in mid-July on a £5m refresh of Stirling station. The project, being funded by the Scottish Government, with contributions from Network Rail Scotland and Serco Group, will cover a number of areas, including:
■ Refurbishment of the station entrance canopy;
■ Creation of a pedestrianised plaza around the station;
■ Improved customer waiting facilities on platforms 2 and 3 and new public toilets;
■ The creation of a Cyclepoint with 150 additional cycle spaces and a small maintenance area;
■ Pedestrianisation of the current station forecourt;
■ Taxi rank relocation; and
■ Improved active travel links to the city centre and wider Stirling area.
The project will build on the city centre streetscape improvements previously delivered by Stirling Council and encourage pedestrians and cyclists to travel by train. Delivery of the improvements will be through Stirling Council and Sustrans. Completion is planned for spring 2023.
