LONG-AWAITED SLATE:

- GARY THOMAS

A number of months after vegetation clearance work took place in preparation for the traffic, Glan Conwy sidings and the former coal yard at Llandudno Junction saw their first movement of slate waste by GB Railfreight for the Breedon Group on August 3. The cargo had arrived by road from the firm’s Penrhyn Quarry. Class 66 No. 66773 Pride of GB Railfreight is seen with wagons awaiting loading after dividing the empty train, which it had brought from Doncaster Decoy Yard. The loaded train was destined for Luton Crescent Road sidings, although workings are ultimately expected to serve Hope Cement Works in Derbyshire.
