L&Y locomotives to be ‘rounded up’ at Bury!

-

THE East Lancashire Railway’s October 14-16 autumn steam gala is to feature five out of six surviving Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway locos – believed to be the largest gathering of

L&Y locos in one place in preservation. It is the latest in a series of events this year marking the centenary of the merger of the L&Y with the LNWR.

Subject to availability, the operational line-up is set to include: L&Y Class 25 0-6-0

No. 957 visiting from Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (KWVR); L&Y ‘Pug’ No. 19; L&Y 0-6-0ST

No. 752/51456; and L&Y Class 27 0-6-0 No. 52322. Also due to be in traffic are LNWR 0-6-2 Coal Tank No. 1054, GWR ‘56XX’ 0-6-2T No. 5643 and BR ‘4MT’ 2-6-4T No. 80097.

The event will also be the last planned running for SR ‘West Country’ No. 34092 City of Wells before it is taken out of service for overhaul.

A further attraction will be the presence of LYR ‘Pug’ No. 51218, which last steamed in 2005. Normally resident at the KWVR’s Oxenhope exhibition shed, it will be on display at Bury Bolton Street. This will be the first time both LYR Pugs have been together since 1998.

LNER ‘A4’ No. 60009 Union of South Africa will be viewable on display in Bury Transport Museum.
