Appeal to restore Quarryman to operation

-

RAVENGLASS Railway Museum has launched a Just Giving appeal to raise £5,000 to restore 1926-built Muir-Hill 4W petrol/ TVO (tractor vaporising oil) loco Quarryman to operation. Built for Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway (R&ER) to pull granite trains from Beckfoot Quarry it continued this work until 1953 when the quarry closed. It entered the museum collection in the 1980s and saw occasional use on the R&ER until 2017 when the engine block sustained damage. A replacement engine was acquired and fitted but various issues, including a seized clutch, need to be addressed. The intention is to send the loco to John Fowler Engineering for full assessment and repair.
