Poole Park Railway reopens

- COMPILED BY PETER NICHOLSON

THE rebuilt 10¼in gauge Poole Park Railway, Dorset, reopened on September 2, with a trial service. Steam-outline 0-6-0DH Howard (Keef 74 of 2005), hired from the Lappa Valley Railway for construction trains, inaugurated the passenger service.

However, on September 10 a derailment occurred. Nobody was hurt and it reopened the following day.

The blue locomotive jumped the track with the first carriage on a tight curve. It is believed stones may have been deliberately wedged between the running and check rails.

The line’s new battery-electric loco is yet to be delivered.
