Consultation ends for Waterside Line
A PUBLIC consultation into reopening the Waterside
Line in Hampshire closed on September 9.
Under the proposals, passenger services would be reinstated between Southampton Central and Marchwood station, which will be reopened, plus there will be a new station in Hythe.
Closing in 1966 and remaining open for occasional freight traffic, funding for the feasibility studies in connection with reopening have been provided by the Department for Transport under its Restoring Your Railway initiative.
Network Rail will consider all the feedback and, along with other information such as a Final Business
Case and Environmental Impact Assessment, make a recommendation to the DfT on whether to progress the project.
