Metro’s biggest ever closure begins
THE longest and biggest line closure of the Tyne & Wear Metro’s 42-year history got underway on September 12, allowing track dualling work to take place on the route between Pelaw and South Shields.
Three sections of Metro line which are currently single-track are being dualled to alleviate bottlenecks. The changes should improve reliability and give scope for better service frequency across the system.
The closure is due to last until December 4.
