Notes of warning tested

-

SOUND recordings of train warning horn patterns have been carried out at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre as part of a programme to test staff and public comprehension of their different meanings.

The site, which is owned by rolling stock leasing firm Porterbrook, was used by teams from rail systems specialist Ricardo and the

Rail Safety & Standards

Board (RSSB) to record the 14 different warning horn sequences based on rule book requirements and consultation with drivers.

The RSSB is researching the optimisation of audible warnings, considering all the potential scenarios in which drivers may have to use them.

Sample audiences including track workers, depot and station staff and members of the public will be played the horn patterns and asked what they mean.
