INTERNATIONAL LINE REOPENS IN THE BALKANS:

- MARK TORKINGTON

Passenger services returned to the Croatian coastal city of Ploče on July 1. Trains from the rest of Croatia have to travel across Bosnia and Herzegovina and for now at least there are no through trains from the Croatian Capital Zagreb. The Bosnia and Herzegovinian state railway operator, Željeznice FBiH, is running the new service on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as a train pair from Sarajevo, via the popular tourist destination of Mostar using its relatively new Talgo trainsets. Croatian Railways (HZ PP) electric loco No. 1141 309 is seen at Ploče on August 6 with the train to Sarajevo. The Croatian loco only works the train around 20km to the Bosnian border at Čapljina.
