HALF A CENTURY OF U-BAHN:
The German city of Nuremburg celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Metro or U-Bahn system at the end of July. As well as depot open days, trains were run using original, now heritage stock. Nuremburg was the fourth German city to open a ‘U-Bahn’ (after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich) and the first trains ran on March 1, 1972. The system has since expanded to three lines, one of which is operated using automatic trains since June 2008. Original Nuremberg U-Bahn type DT1 trains Nos. 575 and 576 are pictured at Scharfreiterring on July 30 working special trains in connection with the 50th anniversary.
