Millett’s looking to stake his claim
YOUNG fly-half Will Millett is hoping to put forward his case for more regular game time in the Nottingham number 10 jersey over the next fortnight.
The third year Loughborough University student has only been a bit-part player in the first six rounds of the Championship but back-to-back British & Irish Cup fixtures, against Scarlets Premiership Select and Leinster A, mean he has the chance to shine over the next fortnight. It is an opportunity he intends to take with both hands.
He said: “When I was at school I felt like I could have made more of my opportunities, I just coasted along, but now I’m much more driven. The B&I Cup gives me the other younger boys to show what we can do.”
Nottingham have only made it out of their pool twice in the seven-year history of the B&I Cup, and with a tough trip to former champions Leinster A up next, today’s clash against Scarlets falls in the ‘mustwin’ category if they are to improve on that record.
The Greens have fallen on the wrong side of some tight scorelines in recent weeks and former Chinnor player Millett, 22, hopes they can turn the corner.
“Three or four games in last five have gone down to the last kick or the last play, and that’s been the difference between winning and losing. Hopefully we can turn that around in the next few weeks and push on from there.
“As a team we are still aiming for the play-offs. If you look at the league table, I think that’s a realistic target because it is extremely tight.”
Leicester prop Pat Cilliers who joined on loan this week is set to make his debut like Charlie Thacker and Jack Spittle.
