Star man Owen ‘itching’ for action

-

OWEN FARRELL spoke about his triumphant return. “I was a bit stiff coming towards the end but I was itching to be back out there and that was a great way to come back,” he said.

“It was a great effort from the group, to come to a place like this and get a result is a massive scalp.

“But there are still things to work on, our discipline was not great in the second half.

“Having said that, beating a terrific team like Toulon is a great start. We forced them to make individual errors, we wanted to make sure we were in the game and pushing the same way and we did that really well and hit them well around the ruck area.

“We have got the Scarlets next week and we need to back up this result.”

Saracens’ director of rugby Mark McCall said: “There is probably a reason why Toulon have never been beaten at home in Europe before. They have outstanding players and all of their really big players stepped up in the second half.

“In the first half we played some beautiful rugby – outstanding attacking play – and showed resilience in the second half when we went down to 14 twice.”

Mike Ford, Toulon’s new first team coach, said: “Our defence was poor and the three tries they scored in the first half came from schoolboy individual errors.

“It was a big mountain to climb in the second half but I’m proud of the boys for coming back to within a score.”
