Taylor’s kick lifts Tynedale up the table
A LATE Dan Taylor penalty proved enough for Tynedale to come away from South Leicester with a one-point win in a game that never really ignited.
The visitors’ big pack played through their No.8 Scott Powell, whose efforts at the base of the scrum enabled Taylor to work the touch-line where their lineouts were the main threat to South Leicester.
The visitors quickly opened the scoring with a well-drilled catch and drive, Jamie Blamire touching down and Taylor converting.
Within five minutes a solid South Leicester scrum gained a penalty, and from the line-out Martin Wolfenden made ground, allowing Rickie Aley to find Jacob Heath for an unconverted try.
The home side took the lead after a long Aley pass reached Calum Gunn, who put Aaron Martin in – Aley converting.
Tynedale soon hit back with a Taylor penalty for a 13-12 half-time lead and the visitors soon added to their score, catching the home side unawares with a tap penalty and Jack Outson crossing – Taylor adding the extras.
Aley reduced the arrears with penalty and soon kicked a further penalty to leave Tynedale with a twopoint lead.
And he was again involved as his cross-kick was well-taken by Blane Howe to dot down.
Aley converted to give South a two-point lead, but Taylor's late penalty gave the visitors the win.
