Beechen Cliff stun Hartpury with four try charge

BEECHEN CLIFF caused the greatest upset in AASE League history when they defeated Hartpury

College away 26-34, denying them an eighth successive title.

Tries came from Miles Gilbert, Fin Dewar, Tom de Glanville and Will Partington who amassed 19 points in total for Beechen Cliff.

England U17s Jacob Morris, Alex Forrester, and Charlie Chapman all scored for seven-time champions Hartpury but they could not hold on to their unbeaten record.

Exeter College capitalise­d on Hartpury’s loss and took their place at the top of the AASE South league to reach the final at Allianz Park. Exeter defeated

Henley College 37-7 with tries coming from England U18s James Kenny, Joe Snow, Richard Capstick, James Tapp and Lewis Pearson.

The boys from Devon will face Gosforth Academy after they booked their first AASE final appearance with a 40-0 victory over Worcester College.

Connor Beswick, Jack Johnson, Tristan Grant, Jake Rodgers and England U17s Tom Marshall all dotted down for Gosforth, who topped the Northern league.

Ronan Maloney’s trydouble helped St Paul’s Catholic College to a

34-12 win over Truro and Penwith College.

Myerscough College secured a 19-17 victory over Moulton College, while Ivybridge lost out to West Country rivals SGS Filton 12-22. In the Champions Trophy, holders Bedford produced a solid defensive display to see off Epsom College 10-5 in the semi-finals. James Gulliver scored early on for Epsom but the visitors replied in the secondhalf with Ben Knight and Fraser Dingwall touching down.
