- ■ By ED WILLIAMS

WHARFEDALE just edged this hard-fought and entertaining match to win their first home game of the season – Tom Barrett slotting two crucial late penalties.

South Leicester took an early lead with a penalty and a drop goal from Rickie Aley. Barrett put Dale on the scoreboard with a penalty before forced a turnover in the visitors’ half was worked left to Oliver Cicognini. The Wharfedale winger had a lot of work to do but a combination of strength and speed took him to the line for an unconverted try.

The South Leicester forwards then drove over for an unconverted try, awarded to Daniel Ireland, to retake the lead.

Back came Wharfedale and good work from Kieran Frost set up Cicognini for his second. Barrett’s conversion took the score to 15-11 to the home side.

South Leicester were back in front by half-time when Ireland intercepted a pass on halfway to run under the posts. Aley slotted the extras.

The Dale forwards then set up Adam Howard at the start of the second half for a converted try.

South hit back, Patrick Marks crossing and Aley’s conversion took the score to 25-22 to the visitors.

However, two penalties from Barrett were enough for Wharfedale.
