Zutic red costs Broadstreet badly
RESURGENT Barnstaple came from 15-0 down to claim their sixth victory of the season at secondfrom-bottom Broadstreet.
Scores from Jarrad Hayler, Luke Berry and Williams Topps saw the Chiefs home, with the visitors taking full advantage of Chris Zutic’s red card in the 40th minute.
The home side raced into a handsome lead inside the opening 11 minutes, Jake Dodd and Nick Thatcher scoring either side of a Dan Glasse penalty.
Barnstaple’s Jordan Petherbridge let the struggling hosts off the hook by missing two penalties but a penalty try saw the visitors open their account, making it 15-7 at the break
Broadstreet’s task was made all the more difficult when Zutic was red-carded for serious foul play. From there, Hayler grabbed Barnstaple’s first try of the game with 55 minutes on the clock and although that score went unconverted, Gwyn Parks successfully dissected the posts on the hour mark to level matters at 15-15.
Two minutes later, the Devon side continued their assault and took the lead for the first time, Berry dotting down.
With 13 minutes left, Topps rounded off Barnstaple’s victory, crashing over the line to secure a bonus point for his team.
