Canucks record man forced to call time
CANADA’s most-capped international Aaron Carpenter has announced his retirement from the game with immediate effect.
The Doncaster back rower suffered a third concussion of the season during Canada’s 37-27 win over Spain in Madrid last month and has now decided to call it a day.
The father-of-three won 80 caps for his country and played in three World Cups, overtaking Al Charron’s record number of Test appearances last summer.
“When I heard he suffered a third HIA concussion this season then I put two and two together,” said Knights director of rugby Clive Griffiths. “We had a chat this week and I respect his decision taking into account his history of neck injuries and the fact that he’s got a young family.”
The 34-year-old Ontarian also had spells with London Welsh, Cornish Pirates and Plymouth before arriving at Castle Park in January.
