Women left eighth after Spain defeat
Women finished eighth in Dubai after losing to Spain 14-21 in the seventh place play off.
Earlier in the day England were defeated 29-12 by Australia in the quarter-final, with Amy Wilson Hardy and Lydia Thompson grabbing tries.
England faced France in the fifth place play-off and began well with tries from Alex Matthews and Thompson. However France came from behind to win 21-12.
In the final match of the day England met Spain. Deborah Fleming secured an early lead but Spain hit back to win 21-14.
