Exeter Chiefs like the look of Sale Sharks full-back Haley

-

EXETER Chiefs have been linked with a move for Sale Sharks full-back Mike Haley despite him having another year left on his current contract.

Blindside sources have been told that the Sharks could be open to doing business this summer on the 23-year-old England Saxons international. Preston-born Haley, who came through the Sharks academy is one of three Sale players who can play at full-back alongside James O’Connor and Byron McGuigan. The Chiefs are in the market for a new full-back with a question mark over the future of 15-cap Wallaby international Lachlan Turner, who was signed from Toulon in 2016.

Chiefs boss Rob Baxter is still to decide if he is going to offer Turner a new deal.

A couple of players who are departing Sandy Park at the end of the season are Will Chudley, who has now completed the move to Bath I revealed on January 7.

A week earlier this column reported that Thomas Waldron was also off in the summer and I understand that he is now looking for a club in Japan to play at least one more season.

The Chiefs are expecting a visa to come through for Argentinian winger Santiago Cordero and will announce that he is joining the club.

Back row powerhouse Dave Ewers is close to agreeing new deal that will see him stay at Sandy Park beyond the end of the season.
