Stortford picked off after strong opening

B Stortford ...... 10 Coventry ........ 36

- ■ By JOHN ALLANSON

STORTFORD’S strong start was undone by a couple of missed tackles and Coventry went on to a comfortable win.

Cov broke free from that early pressure for winger Max Trimble to touch down, with the try converted by Will Maisey.

Stortford continued to threaten through their backs but had to settle for a penalty goal in response after 16 minutes.

Coventry again showed their clinical finishing skills to score a second try out wide seven minutes later through Rob Knox.

This time the conversion attempt went wide, as it did after a further three minutes when James Stokes touched down after some good interplay from his inside backs.

A fourth try just before the break, again by Trimble, had them playing like the Champions elect.

Stortford enjoyed the better of the third quarter, though without seriously threatening the Coventry line. Eventually, thanks to a series of penalties, Cov worked their way to the five-metre line, forcing their way over for a wellconverted try from a driving maul.

A Stortford counterattack was frustrated on the Coventry line by a breakdown penalty and Cov took advantage, breaking for a try by Scott Tolmie.

Stortford again fought back and forced a consolation try at the death for Matt Tomlinson from a driving maul, with Matt Riddington converting.
