Ruthless display as Field too good for Lucs

- ■ By GEOFF VICKRESS

HUDDERSFIELD outscored Luctonians by six tries to three in difficult conditions at Mortimer Park.

Lucs, who were mourning the loss of first team manager Ali Waugh, who died suddenly last week, put up a spirited performance, but Field’s strong pack and defence held firm.

Lucs also had to play witrh 14 men for much of the match after Zac Watkins was dismissed after half an hour.

Prior to the card, Field had taken a deserved lead with Fran Entressengle and Austen Thompson both scoring to give the visitors a 10-0 advantage.

However, Watkins’ dismissal for foul play galvanised the home side and they clawed their way back into the game with an excellent try from Frank Kelly who showed real technique with a delightful chip and chase of his own to reduce the arrears.

Seb Robinson’s try on the half hour with Sam Boxhall adding a penalty and a conversion saw the home side lead 18-10, but Lewis Workman’s score from a kick through from Harry Davey right on half-time saw the teams separated by just five points at the whistle.

Joel Hinchcliffe’s yellow levelled the numbers at the beginning of the second half, but Luc’s were unable to take advantage and Field were ruthless, adding three more second-half scores through Hinchcliffe, on his return from the bin, Conway and Thompson.
