Crusaders win battle of the leading pair

South West Premier

-

DINGS Crusaders stretched their advantage at the top to 15 points following a 30-13 victory over

Bournemouth in second spot.

After denting Newton Abbot’s promotion hopes last weekend, Dings hosted title challengers Bournemouth in this week’s round of matches.

It took Dings just seven minutes to take the lead when Luke Arscott ran over on the right wing for the opening try, converted by Ben Bolster.

The table-toppers scored their secondwithin 14 minutes through Harry Tovey and, despite a Grant Hancox penalty, they went into half-time 17-3 ahead.

Full-back Tovey was in the mood for further tries and sealed the victory with his second as his side ran out clear winners.

Camborne battled to a 29-7 victory over Westonsuper-Mare in a bottom-of- the-table clash thanks to a couple of tries from James Goldsworthy.

Further tries came courtesy of Ben Kemp and Harvey Bell, while David Mankee scored three conversions and two penalties

Camborne, who sat in the bottom three before the game, crossed for three first-half tries as they ran riot in difficult conditions, while Mark Turton replied for Weston.

Despite Camborne sealing the bonus point in the second half, it was Weston who should have had at least one further try to show for their efforts.

Lydney gave their survival hopes a boost after taking a 24-0 morale-boosting victory against struggling Brixham.

Josh Hannam scored a couple of tries for Lydney, while Sam Arnott and Steve Perry were also on the score sheet.

Bracknell fought hard to take a 23-21 victory at

Cleve, thanks to tries from Gabe Hills and Simon Bayliss.

Vic Hardewicke kicked two penalties, while Chris Laidler also added a threepointer of his own

Finally, Newbury Blues were 18-13 victors at Hornets with Jack Walsh and Alex Miller crossing the whitewash for the triumphant visitors.

Two matches were postponed as Exmouth’s pitch for their game against

Newton Abbot was deemed unplayable, while

Ivybridge v Maidenhead was also called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
