Galarza hoping for Pumas reprieve at Gloucester

-

GLOUCESTER lock Mariano Galarza has revealed how proposed changes in Argentina’s Test eligibility rules could pave the way to him signing a new deal at Kingsholm.

With overseas-based Argentines currently excluded from Pumas selection, 25-cap Galarza admits he has been under increasing pressure to return home and play for Super Rugby outfit Los Jaguares.

However, Galarza, who is out of contract this summer, hopes that situation will change, telling

TRP: “I’m in the middle of negotiations and I’m very keen to stay at Gloucester.

“My big target is to play in the next World Cup and everything I do is thinking about that, but the situation in Argentina is unclear. They are in the middle of discussions and hopefully, for all of us playing abroad and for Argentinian rugby, the rules will change.

“I’ve asked what’s going on but they don’t know yet so I’m waiting to see what happens – my big preference is to stay at Gloucester for another two years.”

Galarza missed the first four months of this season due to tendonitis in his left knee and then damaged medial ligaments. Now the enforcer is ready for a big finish as Gloucester fight for silverware on two fronts.

He explained: “It’s been a frustrating rehab but there’s a big challenge to win my place back now and it’s good for other guys if I can add to the competition.

“Tom Savage, Ed Slater and Jeremy Thrush have been playing well but my return will push all of us to play better.”
