Second half is pointless as Dragons defend heroically

WONDERFUL defence from Dragons in a scoreless second half prevented a third consecutiv­e league defeat at Rodney Parade.

After Christmas derby defeats at the hands of Blues and Ospreys, Dragons looked set for another loss when they trailed 15-5, but they tightened up their defence to frustrate the Scots.

Dragons coach Bernard Jackman said: “Their attack had a lot of power in the first half and our chase from the kick off was pathetic but overall I’m happy with our effort.

“We had to defend effort after effort but we are getting fitter and our mental resilience is much improved.

“We are hell of a lot better than we were back in September but it’s still a game we could have easily lost.”

Indeed they should have done because, apart from a superb display from Hallam Amos, Glasgow had all the firepower in attack.

Centres Nick Grigg and Brandon Thomson were constant thorns in Dragons defence with George Horne a livewire scrum-half but, after an impressive first half, they became too predictabl­e against stubborn hosts with Benjamin and Harrison Keddie putting in huge tackling stints.

After the interval the visitors dominated possession and territory but Adam Hastings should have varied his play by using the kicking option to give Dragons more to think about.
