Huge defensive effort by Park’s stalwarts

- ■ By GEOFF VICKRESS

SEDGLEY Park will have travelled home nursing their bodies following a massive defensive performance against an unlucky Luctonians side.

Had a couple of decisions gone in Lucs’ favour, when they were in the Sed- gley red zone, they would have taken all the points.

Some dubious penalty awards, indiscipline and handling errors let their opponents off the hook.

Lucs took an early lead through Owen Davies, who was superb throughout, with Sam Boxhall adding the extras, but Park, on their first foray, scored through Danny Maher from a rolling maul.

Josh Watkins added Lucs’ second score in treacherous conditions when he was driven over, Boxhall again converting.

But Park bided their time and, from only their second attacking move,

scored again through Maher just before the interval, Matt Riley added the conversion.

Park started the second half with more adventure and Andy Riley spotted a gap to allow Callum McShane to run through and score, Riley again adding the extras.

Riley’s penalty added to Lucs’ woes.

Despite a rousing lastditch effort, with the raucous home crowd roaring them on and with Hallam Chapman getting a yellow in the dying minutes for Park, Lucs settled for a losing bonus with Louis Silver’s penalty.
